ARDELT: TSR ORDERS NEW ARDELT CRANES FOR THE EFFICIENT HANDLING OF SCRAP METAL

Scrap metal is everything other than waste. In fact, it forms an important raw material for the whole steel and metal industry.

“TSR Recycling GmbH und Co.KG” is a leading company operating in the European market for the recycling of scrap steel and non-ferrous metals. With around 130 branches throughout Europe, TSR has a workforce of over 2,000 employees.  The quantity of materials handled annually is more than 7 million tonnes.

For this, TSR uses the latest, most efficient equipment and high-performance machinery.

In 2003, TSR ordered from “KIROW ARDELT GmbH” the first Pelikan type balancer crane for the Bremen location.

The Pelikan is a fully-hydraulic and very robust special lifting machine. It is especially well suited to the fast handling of scrap metal and bulk goods at ports and in the recycling industry. Its jib system, comprises the four main elements of front boom, main boom, tension boom and the moving counterweight. The unique feature of this special geometry is that it provides a balanced system and therefore minimises the torque forces acting on the slew bearing and reduces the amount of energy required for luffing. This offers the lowest possible energy costs.

It is an extremely economical machine, since it can press into the bulk good with a force equal to 50% of the lifting capacity, which also allows optimisation of the storage and transport areas.

Because of the reliability and efficiency of this crane, TSR also planned to use this crane type for the Duisburg and Bottrop locations, and in the autumn of 2010 ordered two similar cranes from ARDELT. Despite the very short delivery date, these cranes were delivered and handed over to the end customers in fault-free condition ahead of the deadline

The cranes have a maximum hoisting capacity of 20 t and an outreach of 38 m. At both locations, the power supply is provided by means of a contact line.

The crane design and specification, with solenoid control, quick-change device, visual display and S7 PLC, provide the normal equipment items that are supplied as standard.

The crane categorisation conforms generally to the crane group A8.

The slew bearing is also categorised accordingly.

ARDELT’s own standard fixing technique for the slew bearing, with the use of Superbolt screwed connections, additionally provides the basis for optimal long-term durability. It is because of this forward thinking that, during the general refurbishment undertaken this year of a Pelikan which has been in service for more than 15 years, it was possible to re-use the existing crane steelwork and slew bearing. Only the cab, the electrics and the hydraulics were overhauled.

For ARDELT, further proof that, with regard to these superior quality requirements, it is important to be on the right path in the service of our customers.
